BECOMING A TEACHER IN OUR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

ECOLE INTERNATIONALE DE NEW YORK (EINY) is an independent, international school located in the heart of New York City. After its opening in September 2009, EINY started the procedure to apply for its recognition by A.E.F.E. (French for Agency for the Advancement of French abroad) in order to achieve its full accreditation. EINY wishes to be part of the network of 45 French schools in the U.S.A., and 440 French schools established in 135 countries around the world.

Visit the agency’s website at www.aefe.diplomatie.fr
EINY has also established an affiliation with the Mission Laïque Française (MLF), an educational institution promoting French language and culture through the education of children in its network of MLF schools around the world. MLF has a network of 17 schools in the U.S.A.
More information at www.mlfmonde.org

The school offers a bilingual immersion program in French and English with an appreciation for other cultures of the world. The French and English curricula follow the objectives and standards of the French National Curriculum and the ones of the State of New York. In the preschool and elementary sections, students are taught 60% of instruction in French and 40% in English. Both French and American curricula are harmonized at all levels. Language coordinators facilitate the harmonization of both programs and are able to create educational projects while enhancing the collaboration between all faculty members.

The main objective of the school is to enroll French and francophone children, English-speaking children with no knowledge of the French language, and international children who speak a 3rd and 4th language at home. EINY’s student body represents the diversity of New York City and encompasses the ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic origins of its families. Students of the preschool and elementary school represent many nationalities. From the very start, the school is establishing a multicultural environment where many languages as well as many expressions of human diversity coexist every day.
American certified teachers who want to teach at EINY must be adaptable and opened to mingle with many cultural differences in order to integrate them in an international, educational environment promoting the acquisition of a French language and culture at an early age. American faculty members must demonstrate strong collaborative skills in order to work with a team of French teachers at all levels of the school.

EINY emphasizes the use of information technologies (IT) as a pedagogical tool that teachers integrate in their curricula. Faculty must be able to use IT in order to communicate with the faculty and staff as well as the parents.
Specialist teachers and other resource persons are also an important part of the educational team.

CARACTERISTICS OF ALL TEACHING POSITIONS:

All teaching positions and contracts are negotiated for a period of one academic year, from September 31st through August 31st of the following year. Each position may be negotiated again and the contract renewed in the spring of the following year (in March).
EINY seeks to hire professional, certified teachers who have a minimum of two years of teaching young children in the public or private school system. Certified teachers coming from another state must obtain their equivalent teaching certificate in New York State.

Teacher’s salaries are paid over a period of twelve consecutive months, starting for the month of September. The level of salary depends on the professional diploma(s)/certification(s), the highest university degree, and the number of years of teaching experience.
EINY wants to hire teachers who are strongly motivated and wants to recognize their committed work, their professional qualities and skills, their innovative ideas as well as their active participation in the school life and its growth. The employment contract offers an attractive packet of benefits that is presented to each candidate during the final negotiation of their employment.

The school offers the OXFORD Health insurance coverage including a dental plan. Other family members can participate at an extra cost paid by the employee.
